Cranksgiving is a national event that combines two things we love: riding bikes with friends and supporting our community!

Part scavenger hunt, part food drive, Cranksgiving is a team bike ride that sends folks around Knoxville to various grocery stores to collect food items, all to benefit our local food bank, Second Harvest of East Tennessee.

Traditionally, Knoxville’s Cranksgiving is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

FAQs

  • Registration for Cranksgiving opens an hour before the ride (be sure to show up early to plan the best route!). When you register, each team will be given a manifest and an envelope for receipts. On the manifest is a list of grocery stores and food items to purchase, each worth a certain number of points. The team with the highest score and the quickest time wins!

  • Cranksgiving is and will always be a free event—meaning there is no registration fee. However, each team will be asked to purchase their own food items, so we recommend each team member plan on spending $10-$15. If you wanna spend more…go for it!

  • For starters, a functioning bike. And you’re obviously going to want some way to carry all that food, so a backpack, basket, panniers—whatever you have. A bike lock and a flat kit are also recommended (as this is an unsupported ride)

  • The beauty of Cranksgiving is that it can be whatever type of ride you want it to be. Hit as many grocery stores and get as many food as you want. Take your time and enjoy a casual ride, or crush it out and take home gold, it’s all up to you. The important part is to have fun and to support our neighbors in need.
